Japan is really pulling out all the stops for President Obama. One day after Prime Minister Shinzo Abe took him to coveted sushi restaurant Sukiyabashi Jiro, Obama visited the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation where he got a demonstration of ASIMO, Honda’s humanoid robot. And the robot told the President, “It’s nice to meet you. … I can kick a soccer ball, too.” So the commander-in-chief encouraged ASIMO, “Okay, come on.”
Obama said, “How about that? That was pretty impressive,” and also watched ASIMO jump on one leg. In remarks after the demonstration, the pool report noted he said to some students, “I have to say that the robots were a little scary, they were too lifelike. They were amazing.”
“All of those exhibits, I think show the incredible breakthroughs in technology and science that are happening every single day,” he continued. “Historically Japan and the United States have been at the cutting edge of innovation. Japan and the United States have historically led the way in innovations that have changed our lives and improved our lives.”
He also encouraged students to visit the U.S., saying “Gambatte kudasai” which can be translated as, “Make an effort, please.”
Of course, while the White House is spinning this as a U.S.-Japan technology story, The Drudge Report has found the real truth:
