Albrecht Muth, the German man who claimed to be an Iraqi general and spy, was sentenced to 50 years in prison today for murdering his 91-year-old socialite wife.
Muth was convicted in January of the premeditated murder of Viola Drath, who was found dead in August 2011 on the bathroom floor of her home the 3200 block of Q Street NW. He was not present at that hearing, having staged several hunger strikes that the government believed were “part of a manipulation designed to avoid trial.”
The government says Muth had a history of domestic violence and killed Drath after she attempted to end the marriage.
Muth is 49-years-old.
