It’s been exactly a month since the Democratic primary election, and D.C. streets are still littered with candidate’s campaign signs.
But if you’re tired of seeing a million Jack Evans for Mayor or Reelect Vince Gray signs scattered throughout, fear not, because today is the day candidates must dispose of all their campaign signs, or else face heavy fines from the Department of Public Works and the District Department of Transportation’s Public Space Office, which range from $150 for the first offense, to $2,000 for the fourth offense and beyond.
Though the city will be cleansed of dozens of different candidates’ campaign signs after tomorrow, there’s still two you’ll be seeing: Muriel Bowser’s and David Catania’s. Since they’re running in the general election, they’re obviously allowed to keep signs up, although D.C. Municipal Regulations state that no sign shall remain up for more than 180 days. DPW will be monitoring the removal of signs and ask that any signs left up after today should be reported to the Citywide Call Center at 311.
