Baltimore’s Future Islands has been kicking around the scene for a long time. But unlike other Charm City bands, Future Islands never broke through to a large audience. The band’s last full length, On the Water, was a progression from the previous as the band got tighter, but with this year’s Singles, the band makes their biggest jump yet.

Singles is more polished and hook-laden than its predecessors, and one of the best albums of the year thus far. Thanks to a spot on Letterman, the band is selling out shows left and right. “Seasons (Waiting On You)” is the lead track off Singles and the band’s strongest track to date. Frontman Samuel Herring’s commanding voice which once was an acquired taste is more comforting, while the synths fall into place around it. Though tonight’s show at the 9:30 Club is sold out, it is worth trying other methods to score a ticket.

Future Islands plays tonight with Ed Schrader’s Music Beat and Oh Hang at the 9:30 Club. Tickets are Sold Out.
