Update: From WMATA:
NOTE: Due to the heavy rainfall earlier this week, the previously scheduled closure of Greenbelt Station has been cancelled. Instead, Green Line trains will operate normally between Greenbelt and Branch Ave this weekend. Trains will run at regular intervals at all stations except Greenbelt on Saturday (see below). This change is not reflected in the trip planner.
It’s almost the weekend, which can only mean one thing: several Metro lines will be undergoing weekend track work, causing numerous train delays and, if you’re unprepared, probably making you late for brunch, or something.
Luckily, WMATA publishes all of the scheduled track work ahead of time so you can alter your travel plans and not get royally screwed over waiting 30 minutes for a Red Line train. But fret not, it’s not all for nothing: Metro is investing $5.5 billion to make the whole system better for everyone. It’s just going to, you know, take a while. Here’s what’s going on this week:
Red Line
Trains every 10-20 minutes.
Red Line trains will operate as follows:
Between Shady Grove and Glenmont: Every 20 minutes throughout the weekend.
Between Shady Grove and NoMa: Every 10-12 minutes from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. onlyWork Performed: Crews will renew rail ties, fasteners, and insulators along with switch replacement preparation between Rhode Island Avenue and Takoma.
Orange Line
Trains every 24 minutes.
Work Performed: Crews will continue platform renewal between Stadium-Armory and Cheverly; repair fences and communications cable between East Falls Church and West Falls Church.
Green Line
Regular service EXCEPT at Greenbelt Station.
Free shuttle buses will replace Green Line trains between Greenbelt and College Park. Riders using shuttle bus service should allow about 15 minutes of travel time.
Green Line trains will run at normal weekend intervals (every 12-20 minutes) between College Park and Branch Ave.
Work Performed: Ongoing construction of a new test track to accept Metro’s new fleet of 7000-series rail cars.
Blue and Yellow Lines
No work being done this weekend! Glory be!
