FRIDAY

DANCE: Aurélien Kairo and Karla Pollux of De Fakto Company present a performance of “Un Petit Pas de Deux sur ses Pas,” which presents dances choreographed to the music of noted burlesque actor Andre Bourvil. The performance is described as “a dynamic and witty piece that revisits different styles of dance, from waltz to ballet to hip hop, while maintaining humorous interaction with the audience.” Starts at 8 p.m. at Alliance Française de Washington (9600 Forest Road, Bethesda, Md.) $15 ($10 for AFDC members). DR. WHO: Black Cat’s weekly Dr. Who happy hour pairs one episode of the classic long-running sci-fi series with a drink special. Tonight, they’re screening the episode “The Angels Take Manhattan.” Free, starts at 7 p.m.

SLINT: It may be a hike to Baltimore—and traffic on a Friday night is annoying, but legendary post-rockers Slint—whose 1991 album Spiderland is among indie-rock history—have recently reunited and are playing the Ottobar (2549 N Howard Street, Baltimore, Md.) tonight. Starts at 9 p.m. and tickets—miraculously not sold out—are $30.

THE BOTH: But if you’re looking to catch some solid live music without driving 45 minutes to Baltimore, The Both—the new project from Ted Leo and Aimee Mann—his making its 9:30 Club debut tonight. Show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $25.

SATURDAY

FUNK PARADE: The inaugural Funk Parade is tomorrow, with festivities kicking off at noon and stretching well into the night. U Street between 9th and 16th Street will be shut down for a day-long street festival, with the official parade taking place at 5 p.m. All the info can be found here.

ARRANGEMENT SEMINAR: The Smithsonian will host the “Creating Beautiful Container Arrangements” seminar from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at the S. Dillon Ripley Center (1100 Jefferson Drive SW). Smithsonian Gardens staff, along with education specialist Cindy Brown and horticulturist Melanie Pyle, will teach attendees the art of creating beautiful flower and pot arrangements for your home garden. LOCAL MUSIC: Local garage-pop group Typefighter is playing a show at the Rock & Roll Hotel tomorrow night to celebrate the release of their excellent debut LP, The End of Everything. Joining them are a pair of local favorites, Shark Week and Teen Mom, along with NYC’s Sunset Guns. $12, starts at 8 p.m.

LITERARY PARTY: The Intentional, the self-proclaimed literary magazine for the millennial generation by the millennial generation, is putting out issue number three with a launch party at Union Arts (411 New York Avenue NE). The party will feature live music from Go Cozy, Redline Graffiti, and DJ AYESCOLD, along with live art by Saman Bernel-Benrud. $15 per ticket, which includes a copy of issue three. RUN DOG RUN: Ready or not, the Running of the Chihuahuas will take place this Saturday on the Southwest Waterfront, between 6th and 7th streets. It’s free to watch, while entering a dog costs $20. Food and beverages will be available. Noon to 3 p.m. —Sarah Anne Hughes

BIKE PARTY: Gearin’ Up, the used bike shop/community nonprofit profiled by DCist this week, will celebrate its grand opening this weekend at Bardo (1200 Bladensburg Road NE). OUT TO THE OPERA: Nationals Park will play host to a telecast of The Magic Flute, thanks to the Washington National Opera’s Opera in the Outfield. Pre-game activities — including a Taiko drumming demonstrations, face painting and a raffle — begin at 5 p.m., and the opera begins at 7 p.m. Free.

SUNDAY

WEDDING WORKSHOP: Getting married soon? Hope to be? Just really like weddings? Whatever the reason, if planning a wedding is in your future or something you’re interested in, Capitol Romance is holding a workshop series at the Ulysses Room (52 O Street NW) on DIY weddings. This first workshop, which is taking place Sunday from 2 – 4 p.m. will be hosted by Ciao Nina and will focus on how to plan your own wedding on the cheap. $30, more info here.

ART: The National Museum of Women in the Arts is hosting a happy hour celebrating the opening of their new exhibit, “Total Art: Contemporary Video.” There will be tours of the new exhibition along with drinks, snacks, and themed activities. DIY DOC: Black Cat is hosting a screening of the documentary Rock, Rage and Self-Defense: An Oral History Of Seattle’s Home Alive, which tells the powerful story of Home Alive, the Seattle grass-roots self-defense collective formed after the atrocious rape and murder of singer Mia Zapata.
