Ricky Eat Acid is the brainchild of Maryland-based artist Sam Ray. Since 2010, Ricky Eat Acid has been releasing EPs, singles, and cassettes full of melancholic pop. Some tracks are ambient drones, while others recontextualize dance music bringing it closer to pop music. Earlier this year Ricky Eat Acid released their biggest album yet, Three Love Songs. The record is the first of the band’s to be released on vinyl and the first that has made taste-making blogs take notice. If anything could be considered the hit off the album it is “In My Dreams We’re Almost Touching.” Taking a Drake lyric “My only wish is I die real” from the song “Take Care” and mixing in house pianos, the track steadily climbs into a euphoric third section. The track is one of the few off the album to have drums, and in some ways is an outlier, but when listing to Three Love Songs as a whole, it fits.

Ricky Eats Acid plays tonight with Jessy Lanza at the Black Cat. Tickets are $12.
