The D.C. area’s first observation wheel, climbing 180 feet above National Harbor, will open on May 23.

Comprised of 42 gondolas, 41 of which hold eight people, officials say The Capital Wheel will offer views of the National Mall, Capitol, and Arlington Cemetery. It will be open everyday from Memorial Day weekend until August from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $11.25 for children between three and 11, and free for children younger than 3.

While the wheel will likely be a success with tourists who stay at National Harbor, perhaps mistakenly thinking they’re in D.C., will a fancy Ferris wheel be able to get people who live in the city to travel to the Maryland site? Perhaps via water taxi, since there’s no Metro station?
