Tokyo Police Club is one of the few dance-punk bands that have transcended the genre. Formed in 2005, the four-piece gained popularity with the critically acclaimed EP A Lesson in Crime. Their debut full-length, Elephant Shell, followed and managed to exceed expectations. Two years later, the band returned with another collection of danceable indie rocks songs in Champ, a tighter and catchier record than Elephant Shell. With this year’s Forcefield, Tokyo Police Club give it all that they have got with their most consistent full-length to date.

Forcefield may be the band’s shortest album to date, but it includes one of the band’s longest songs, “Argentina I,II,II.” a three-part opus that delights through all of its eight minutes. Released as the first single, the song was just the departure the band needed. Second single, ”Hot Tonight,”, is Toyko Police Club’s bid for song of the summer. The track encapsulates everything fun about Tokyo Police Club with out being overbearingly sweet.

Tokyo Police Club plays with Geographer and Said the Whale tonight at the Black Cat. Tickets are Sold-Out.
