Here’s a graphic, which you’ll want to open in a new tab, that compares Metrorail to other high capacity transit modes in the D.C. area.
Posted by PlanItMetro as part of the 2040 Regional Transit System Plan, the table compares “commuter rail, commuter bus, heavy rail, light rail, streetcar, bus rapid transit, and enhanced bus across land use intensity (households and employment), vehicle capacity, stop spacing, trip length, and capital and operating costs.” The H Street NE streetcar line, for example, can (or will, once is starts running) serve 50 employees per acre, while Metrorail can serve a maximum of 350.
