A woman spotted two coyotes while walking her dog in Rock Creek Park near the golf course, NBC4 reported yesterday. Unfortunately, that’s not all that happened. The dog ran off into the woods with the coyotes and came back with bite marks apparently caused by the coyotes.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise—the National Park Service first reported that coyotes were inhabiting Rock Creek Park a decade ago—but rarely are they spotted. And coyote attacks on pets are even more rare. Still, just a reminder that there are indeed coyotes in Rock Creek Park and they are not to be messed with. If you see one, NPS says you can report the sighting to their Resource Management Specialist, Ken Ferebee, at 202-895-6221.
