Here are the locations of fourteen new speed cameras that will be deployed starting “on or about” Tuesday, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. There’s also one camera that will enforce oversized vehicles.
The new cameras are primarily in the Northwest and Northeast quadrants of the city. One is located near where Kelly Dillon was struck by a drunk driver, nearly costing her a leg.
“The thirty-day educational phase will commence on or about May 20, 2014, whereas violators will receive warning citations,” according to a release. “After thirty days of warning tickets, MPD will begin issuing live moving citations to violators.”
A study by the D.C. Department of Transportation found that traffic cameras reduced crashes at 87 locations.
