Memphis-based garage-rock band Ex-Cult run in the same circles as OBN-III”s and Ty Segall. The band certainly works hard and after countless tours, Ex-Cult is following up 2012’s Segall-produced self-titled record with Midnight Passenger, a tougher, crunchier record. In Midnight Passenger, the band adds surfier guitars, psychedelic and krautrock melodies with sneering in-your-face vocals. “Midnight Passenger” is a perfect entry point to the headspace of Ex-Cult. The track is charging, with playful guitars clashing with frontman Chris Shaw’s gruff vocals. The track has a lot of attitude and Ex-Cult can definitely back it all up.
Ex-Cult play with The Dead Women tomorrow night at DC9. Tickets are $10.
