Things are falling apart for Selina Meyer’s presidential campaign. Just two weeks after being named campaign manager, Dan caves under pressure and has a nervous breakdown. To make matters worse, Mike is temporarily put in charge and, while he doesn’t completely screw things up, it doesn’t end particularly well.
A majority of the episodes this season find Selina and her crew on the road—Silicon Valley, Detroit, Indiana—but this is the first episode that finds over the pond this season. The last time Selina ventured to Europe, in last season’s “Helsinki,” it was one of the series’ best episodes. Fortunately, Armando Ianucci and co. deliver an episode up to par with “Helsinki,” with Selina in London, meeting with various politicians. Of course, things get fucked up, insults get thrown around, and Jonah finally gets his revenge on Dan. Let’s take a look at the power rankings:
1. Amy
Everything’s coming up Amy. Seriously, I’ve got to hand it to her, the idea to leak the Ray story to Jonah in an attempt to oust Dan as campaign manager was a stroke of genius. Amy’s been one of my favorite characters on the show, and I’m glad she’s finally getting her time to shine.
2. Jonah
Talk about a complete character 360. Jonad, who started the season at rock bottom, has quietly climbed back up the ranks. First by getting hired by Maddox, and then by leaking sensitive information about Selina to the press. And this week, Jonah gets his revenge, by leaking an embarrassing story about Selina’s “wellness advisor” and boy toy Ray to the British press. Never thought I’d say this, but way to go, Jonad.
3. Mike
Mike writes what he thinks is his “masterpiece” speech, only to have it “normal-fied” by Ray. Poor Mike, but also, he didn’t colossally fuck anything up this week and he’s temporarily put in charge after Dan’s nervous breakdown. Apart from breaking some of the Queen’s china, he did alright, all things considered.
4. Gary
Gary didn’t really do much this episode, but he fared better everyone else below. So, you know, keep doing what you’re doing Gary.
5. Selina
Oof, it was a rough trip for Selina. Not only did her meeting with the British go south after her secret meeting with the German Chancellor is discovered, but she becomes the laughing stock of the British press after she mistakes “down in one!” for “daniwah!” while visiting a local pub. On top of all that, the news that Ray wrote a weird religious treatise about obesity breaks, causing all hell to break lose. Tough week for Selina.
6. Ray
Man, I am going to miss the hell out of this guy. Christopher Meloni proves that years of Law & Order hasn’t hindered his comedic chops one bit. From fondness for words, to his ineptitude to comprehend basic political ideas, he’s been a real treat these past two episodes.
6. Dan
Oh how the mighty have fallen.

- Selina: “Daniwah!”
- Ben: “To paraphrase My Fair Lady, we need to get to the fucking church on time.”
