A portion of Rock Creek Parkway was shut down early this morning after a vehicle veered off the road into the water.
According to a U.S. Park Police Public Information Officer, authorities responded to reports of a car crash at approximately 2:36 a.m. A preliminary investigation determined that the two occupants in the car were traveling southbound on Rock Creek Parkway, between Connecticut Avenue NW and Virginia Avenue NW, crossed over into the northbound lane, and plunged into the water. Both occupants were transported to a nearby hospital. As of this morning, one remains in critical condition, while the other only suffered minor injuries.
Park Police are still investigating what caused the accident.
