A group of hateful idiots who we really should ignore will be in Washington, D.C. for three days this June to protest at various site around the city.

What makes the Westboro Baptist Church’s upcoming trip to D.C. different this time is one of their new targets: WIlson High School.

On their site, the hate group says they will protest Wilson’s LGBTQ pride day on June 9.

You boast of being the first public high school in Washington, DC and perhaps the nation to host an “LBGTQ pride event” when you should be hanging your heads in shame for such a thing. How incredibly shameful it is that your parents and teachers won’t simply tell you the truth.

Already 616 people are planning on attending the counter-protest. From a Facebook event page:

Our loving friends the Westboro Baptist Church are coming to visit us on June 9th and we should welcome them with open rainbow covered arms add as many Wilson students as you would like. A peaceful protest so please only post suggestions and things you think will help the cause.

They already have the support of Councilmember and mayoral hopeful David Catania, who is openly gay.

“I’m very proud of the Wilson community for standing up for inclusiveness and respect, even in the face of hateful rhetoric,” Catania said in a message. “Join me in standing with the students of Wilson Senior High School.”
