D.C.’s The Torches is a Barbarian folk outfit, mixing styles like blues and country, old and new. The band features traditional folk instruments, like banjos and harmonicas, and mixes them with oboe and a large helping of strings. Last year the band released their debut record, The Authority Of, on Ljuo Records and is currently playing around the area in support of it. Tomorrow night, the band rounds out a great bill at Comet Ping Pong featuring Puff Pieces. “You, You Sucker” is a swampy track grounded by strings and filled with multi-part male and female harmonies. The upbeat track has violent lyrics but a danceable hoedown backbone.
