Metro is considering a plan to consolidate stops currently served by the 30s buses, which travel across the city from Friendship Heights to Capitol Hill to Southern Avenue.
Under the proposal, more then 30 “low ridership, closely spaced” stops — both northbound and southbound — would be discontinued in order to speed up trip times. From PlanItMetro:
Having fewer stops along a bus route can benefit passengers not only by reducing the time it takes for them to make their trip, but also by making the service more reliable and predictable. When stops are analyzed, several factors will cause them to be taken out of consideration for removal. These reasons include stops in front of a school, house of worship, community center, senior housing, park, transfer point, or other popular amenities. These bus stops will not be removed irrespective of usage.
Metro is currently planning a “major restructuring” of the 30s line. Changes could potentially provide more downtown service from Southeast D.C. and create new routes to provide crosstown service between Friendship Heights and Southern Avenue/Naylor Road, and Friendship Heights and Archives.
