In 2013, D.C. United couldn’t seem to score a goal. In 2014, they seem to score even if they’re not trying to.
Fabian Espindola scored a spectacular, though possibly unintentional, game-winner in the 27th minute of United’s encounter with Sporting Kansas City, guiding D.C. to a 1-0 victory in front of 18,522 people at RFK stadium.
The win puts United in second place in the Eastern Conference, two points off conference leaders New England. We’ll return with our usual analysis next weekend when United takes on Houston at FedEx field as part of a doubleheader. Spain plays El Salvador in an international friendly before United take the pitch at 6:30 p.m. Until then, enjoy Francis Chung’s photo work from Saturday’s match.
And enjoy Espindola’s goal, as well:
