Tonic’s Mount Pleasant location is no more.

The bar made the announcement on Facebook:

To our wonderful patrons:
After ten great years, Tonic of Mt Pleasant (and Last Exit) has closed.
Thank you for all your support over the years.

Tonic still has a location on G Street NW in Foggy Bottom, which will go on. According to The 42, Tonic will be replaced by Goodall’s Organic Bistro.

The new restaurant, located at 3155 Mount Pleasant Street NW, will be called Goodall’s Organic Bistro. The owner, Will Warren, is a long time Mount Pleasant resident and small business owner. This place already has a lot going for it based on who is involved. Dave Duffy (formerly of Great Sage) and Danielle Sharkey (Tabard Inn, Girard’s) are advising on the culinary side. And Nick Pimentel (Room 11) is assisting with interior design. Each of the three rooms will have its own distinct ambiance and personality.

Update: Tonic co-owner Jeremy Pollok said it was time to move on: “It’s been ten-and-a-half years, and the place needed some work.”

Pollok said his partners wanted to focus on the G Street NW location, which recently added a patio. Add in interest in the Mt. Pleasant space, and “it worked out time wise.”

When asked why there wasn’t a closing party, Pollok said they considered it, but it didn’t feel right, as some employees are losing their jobs. (Others are going to G Street, while some will stay on with the space’s new owners.)

“No one should be sad,” he said. “Yeah, it’s been a great run, and it’s time for something different up there.”

Indeed, if you’re looking for a place to drown your sorrows, there’s always Foggy Bottom.
