OPEN MIC: It’s the 9th, which can only mean one thing: “Nine on the Ninth.” The monthly poetry series will open with Joseph Ross, and an open mic will follow. Busboys and Poets (2021 14th Street NW). 9-11 p.m. $5

SING-ALONG: theatreWashington’s monthly sing-along series returns. This month’s “Show Tunes and Cocktails” will feature pianist Glenn Pearson and artist Sam Edgerly (current performing in Round House Theater’s Ordinary Days). As usual, there will be singing, cocktails, theatre ticket giveaways, and this month there is even a photo shoot! If your dreams of becoming a broadway star haven’t come true, at least you’ll have a photo to make it look like they did. Free. Ten percent of the food and beverage proceeds support the organization.

Later this week…

TUESDAY: Set aside the canvas and learn the art of graffiti as you paint Art Jamz’ walls. Art Jamz Dupont Studio (1728 Connecticut Avenue NW) 7-8:30 p.m. $35

WEDNESDAY: The D.C. Public Library is getting in on the sing-along fun. Apparently the library isn’t allowed to publicly announce the actual name of the movie you’ll be singing along to, but the hint is “This fish-out-of- water wants to be part of your world.” Prizes will be awarded for movie trivia and most spirited performance, so be safe and watch The Little Mermaid before. Popcorn will be provided. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library (901 G Street NW) 6:30 p.m. Free. Note: I cannot confirm you will be singing along to The Little Mermaid. For more information, call 202-727-1291.

THURSDAY: In May you learned tips for making great Mother’s Day cards. This month you’ll learn tips for making great mailable vacation memories. All participants are asked to “bring some 2D mementos from past vacations to make into mini-souvenirs.” Don’t have any? Print some pics out! You have three days to prepare. Smithsonian National Postal Museum at Byrne Education Loft’s Overlook (2 Massachusetts Avenue NE). 6-8 p.m. Free, but you need to register in advance here.
