ACME’s Che. (Via the artist).
Have you all listened to ACME yet? No? Well, you should for several reasons: A) They’re playing our concert in a couple weeks (that you should come to). B) They make infectiously bouncy psychedelic soul music/ C) They just put out a new music video for their single “Girlfriend Tonight,” which you need to watch right now.
ACME—which stands for A Company that Makes Everything—is the duo of Cheakaity “Che” Brown and Joshua Davis. “Girlfriend Tonight,” is kind of an old-school soul ballad with the melodic funkiness of Outkast. It’s a rug-cutting club tune that gets an appropriately glitzy video to go along with it. Speaking with WAMU’s Bandwidth, Cheakaity says that “the song is about, pretty much, a guy approaching a girl. It’s kind of a long shot, but she actually goes along with it.”
ACME performs with Pleasure Curses and Ras Nebyu as part of DCist’s summer concert series with Union Kitch and DC DIT on June 21 at The Lot @ Atlantic Plumbing.
