From the department of “yes, really:” D.C. will host a quidditch—that fictional sport played by witches and wizards in that fictional children’s book series, Harry Potter—tournament.
According to a release, “the magical sport from the Harry Potter books is coming to life in Washington, D.C. this June 27 to 29″ for QuidCon. The convention, which is being put together by the International Quidditch Association (yes, a real thing) will feature “leadership training, competition, and celebrations.”
But the convention—which will take place at the Washington Convention Center—isn’t just for Harry Potter nerds. A release states that “participants don’t have to be quidditch players or leaders to take part – in fact, many attendees are first-timers who get the opportunity to learn how to play the game and start a quidditch team from quidditch experts and league officials.” So that’s happening, if you’re into that kind of thing.
Anyway, passes for the weekend are $150 and you can find all the info about QuidCon here.
