Kelis is a sonic chameleon. Whether she is “bringing all the boys to the yard” with her “Milkshake”, being the “bitch ya’ll love to hate” on “Bossy” or providing some soul for David Guetta’s robotic electro-pop on her record Flesh Tone, Kelis has had a long underrated career and she isn’t slowing down anytime soon. For her latest record, Food, Kelis pulled a Cibo Mato, hooking up with TV on The Radio’s Dave Sitek for throwback soul album inspired by … food. When she isn’t singing, Kelis is a chef with her own show Saucy & Sweet on the Cooking Channel. “Rumble” is a bluesy piano number with booming horns, allowing Kelis’s dynamic voice to move from high to low expertly.
Kelis plays with Son Little Sunday at the 9:30 Club. Tickets are $25.
