D.C.-based indie-punk band Railsplitter have been around for a while—the group first formed in 2009—but they’re now experiencing a renaissance. After guitarist Drew Butler decamped to New York City in 2011—where he played bass with The Burlies, the side project for Dismemberment Plan frontman Travis Morrison—it seemed like the end for the four-piece. But, Butler moved back to D.C. in 2013, and the band started jamming again, and now they’ve got a new seven-song EP, Somewhere on Earth, dropping soon.
“Orange Pear Apple Bear,” the first single from the forthcoming EP, plays to the band’s melodic strengths, with a shimmering guitar intro before an anthemic rhythm—courtesy of drummer Billy Maurer and bassist Hampton Maher—kicks in and singer/guitarist Christian Golden’s punk-crooner vocals, which sound like a cross between Jawbreaker’s Blake Schwartzenbach and The Lemonheads’ Evan Dando.
