Hi, hello. It’s currently 92 degrees and rising. Tomorrow it’s expected to get close 100 degrees. Welcome to summer.

How hot is it? It’s so hot that the Department of Public Works had to come an hour earlier to pick up your trash and recycling. It’s so hot that the Department of Parks and Recreation are opening D.C.’s spray parks, which weren’t scheduled to open for another week, today, so that residents and their kids can cool off and fight the oppressive heat.

Beginning today, all of D.C.’s 19 spray parks will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Below is a list of where they all are located and a map to help you find them.

D.C. is also under a heat emergency, meaning cooling centers are open for the elderly, homeless and anyone else who may need relief. See a list here [PDF]. You can also call 800-535-7252 to request transport for a person in need of a cooling center.

The Washington Humane Society is also urging members of the public who see pets in distress to call 202-576-6664 or 202-723-5730.
