It’s official: The Silver Line will begin passenger service on Saturday, July 26 at 12 p.m., according to Metro.

In a conference call with media this morning, Metro General Manager Richard Sarles announced that the Silver Line will officially—like, for real this time—be open for business on July 26. Seriously, guys! This isn’t a dream!

Sarles confirmed that the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority contractor, Bechtel, had completed enough of the items on the Silver Line’s punch list that he “felt confident” announcing the service date. As previously discussed, a week prior to the service date, the Silver Line will begin simulation service. That will begin on Sunday, July 20th, with simulated service to begin effecting the the Blue and Orange lines on Monday, July 21st.

Though the opening of the Silver Line has been delayed time and time again, Sarles says that “it’s an unlikely possibility that something can pop up between now and then” that would delay it again. “We’ve been targeting this date for a while and today I felt confident enough to announce that date today,” he said.

The first Silver Line train will depart from the Wiehle-Reston East station, bound for the Largo Town Center, Sarles says. Trains on the Silver Line will run every six minutes during rush hour and every 12 to 20 minutes the rest of the time. The Silver Line will initially run trains from the Wiehle-Reston East station to Largo Town Center, with McLean, Tysons Corner, Greensboro, and Spring Hill stations in between. Eventually, it will stretch all the way to Dulles Airport.
