How does one measure patriotism? In service to a country, be it in the military or in some other role? In the hours spent giving back to a community, reading the Declaration of Independence to senior citizens or counting the nests of bald eagles? All wrong. It’s measured in the amount of America-themed flag stuff you buy off Amazon.
The online retailer put out a U.S.A! U.S.A! ranking of cities (with a population of over 400,000) based on how many flags with an America theme were purchased per capita between January and June 24 of this year. Virginia Beach, Va. came in first followed by Miami and D.C. While Virginia Beach ordered more flags per capita than D.C., D.C. spent more money than any other city. And in some ways, doesn’t that make us the most patriotic of all?
