ICE CREAM SANDWICHES: What’s the best type of grilled cheese? One made with brioche french toast and filled with cream cheese ice cream. Grilled cheese bar GCDC is celebrating the opening of their patio and the launch of their Cheese Ice Cream Sandwiches menu by giving away these desserts at no charge to the first 40 customers. Everyone else can buy them for $7, while supplies last. GCDC (1730 Pennsylvania Avenue NW) 4-9 p.m.

PUPPETS: As part of the Folklife Festival, the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage (2700 F Street NW) will host the Quanzhou Puppet Troupe for a “performance of an ancient puppet theater tradition. Virtuosic performers sing, speak, and act while manipulating puppets through a series of entertaining episodes.” 6 p.m. Free. —Sarah Anne Hughes
