Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are investigating a pair of burglaries in Northeast D.C., in which the suspect posed as a cable employee to enter the residences.
According to a release, the burglaries occurred yesterday morning, at approximately 9 a.m. in the 4800 block of 7th Street NE and the 1000 block of Crittenden Street NE. Police say the suspect “identified himself as a cable employee, entered the residences, and stole the occupants’ property.”
NBC4 reports that one of the two houses burglarized is the home of the parents of D.C. Councilmember and mayoral candidate Muriel Bowser (D-Ward 4). The burglar reportedly stole her parents’ cell phones. In a release, Bowser says that “having your home, your place of sanctuary, violated is one of the worst things that can happen to you. Thankfully, both of my parents are safe, although a bit shaken.”
Currently, police are offering a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call (202) 727-9099 or text an anonymous tip to 50411.
