Yes, it’s still happening. The long-delayed Silver Line is still on schedule to begin service on July 26, WMATA officials said during a conference call with media this morning.

Want more proof? The Silver Line will even begin simulation service on Sunday! That’s right, less than a week from now, Silver Line trains will begin service without any passengers to make sure everything’s running smoothly. Though that means service changes will go in effect for the Orange, Blue, and Yellow Lines on Sunday as well. Trains on the Blue Line will run every 12 minutes during the day, and at rush hour, trains at Vienna, Dunn Loring, and West Falls Church will arrive and depart every six minutes.

Although the Silver Line opening is still on schedule, Metro spokesman Dan Stessel says that there’s still some outstanding punch list items. According to Stessel, the list of items not completed yet include the permanent certificates of occupancy for Silver Line stations, a few station leaks, and heat tape on the third rail to prevent ice buildup. Stessel says that the TriState Oversight Committee found no issues to delay the start date and that all of the issues can be worked on over night.

In the meantime, the Metro website’s trip planner has been updated to include the schedule times and fares for Silver Line trains. See, it’s happening!
