A D.C. man traveling from Orlando to the city recently had the validity of his driver’s license questioned by a TSA agent “who didn’t seem to know what the District of Columbia was.” This has happened before.
Justin Gray, a Washington, D.C. correspondent for TV news stations in Atlanta, Orlando and other cities, tweeted about the encounter last week.
. @TSA Agent in Orlando never heard of “District of Columbia.” Demanded passport because he didn’t believe my drivers license was from US!?

. @mco should be concerned @TSA agent on duty thinks “District of Columbia” is foreign country. It’s a bizarre place but passport not needed

He continued the story to WFTV in Orlando:
Gray said he asked the agent if he knew what the District of Columbia is, and after a brief conversation Gray realized the man did not know.
Gray was able to get through security and then stopped to complain to a TSA supervisor.
The TSA confirmed to WFTV that a D.C. driver’s license is a valid form of ID. But just to make sure the agents know:
A TSA spokesman told Gray that all of the TSA agents in Orlando are being shown copies of District of Columbia driver’s license.
