Update: D.C. Water says the sinkhole was caused by a water main break, which has left about 40 homes in the neighborhood without water. They hope to have it repaired by tonight.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back on the roads, it comes back: a sinkhole. This time, one has formed in Southeast D.C.

The Metropolitan Police Department says that the 3000 block of Stanton Road SE is closed in both directions due to a sinkhole that’s opened up. D.C. Water is currently on the scene and the District Department of Transportation has been notified.

But just how big of a sinkhole is it? Well, take a gander and gape in horror:

A week ago, a sinkhole appeared in downtown D.C. on 14th Street NW between Constitution Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue. Several lanes were closed for days as crews worked to repair the sinkhole and figure out what caused it. They never did figure it out, the sinkhole was repaired and all lanes are open.
