Twanna Hines, a sex educator and writer, is the star of her one-woman show, I Füçkèð Your Country. The performance is described as “sex ed for adults” delivered by a woman who “grew up in Mississippi, lost her virginity in England and slept her way through Europe.”

Hines is charming and enthusiastic (great traits to have while generously awarding sex toys and erotica to trivia winners), and immediately loosened up the audience by going commando on stage. She comes from a varied background and has had fun international adventures, both the primary fodder for the show.

Given the show’s description, I went in expecting a “Part II” to middle school’s version of sex ed, brought to life with Hines’s steamy stories. But I’m not sure if that’s what Hines intended it to be. There was more discussion of her childhood than sex stories, which seemed almost like an afterthought. Only one of the stories elicited gasps from an audience ready to be shocked; the others she chose were more like nice-stories-about-your-ex. (Hines invited the audience to yell out countries she could tell a story from, and declined one saying, “You know, I’ve never had a boyfriend from there, only lovers.” Wasn’t that the point, though?)

The show as at its best when Hines enlisted her obvious sex educator skills. A funny video segment by a British man served as basic “sex ed,” but Hines’s personal condom pointers and an unexpected demonstration on a woman donning a strap-on were better suited to the adult audience.

The concept of I Füçkèð Your Country has major potential, but Hines is admittedly a “Capital Fringe virgin.” I think that with a little more experience and fine-tuning, you’d never know.
