The Fort Reno summer concert series was almost canceled this year, but after some back-and-forth between organizer Amanda MacKaye and the National Park Service and U.S. Park Police, the shows will go on. Now that the drama is over (for now, at least), it’s time to focus on what Fort Reno is all about: the bands.
Tonight’s bill: Title Tracks, The Effects, Myrrh Myrrh
Myrhh Myrhh
Who are they?
Myrrh Myrhh is a three-piece indie-pop band from D.C.
What do they sound like?
Myrrh Myrrh blends dreamy, melodic indie-pop with jangly rhythms and angular hooks. There’s also a kind of gloomy aspect, with a hit glam-pop and goth rock. Their songs are undeniably catchy, but they never go in the direction you think they’re headed.
Myrrh Myrrh what the hell kind of name is that?
What the hell kind of name is any band name these days? Have you heard of Diarrhea Planet? It’s 2014, just roll with it, OK?
Should I go?
Yes, always go to Fort Reno shows.
The Effects
Who are they?
The Effects are a new three-piece rock band featuring members of Deleted Scenes, Medications, Buildings, and Faraquet.
What do they sound like?
The Effects play melodic but edgy and angular garage rock. There will be searing hooks, thundering rhythms, noodly melodies, and face-melting guitar solos. It will be loud.
Hey, wait, didn’t I see them at the first DCist concert this summer?
Yes you did. Despite some technical difficulties, they still managed to melt faces and tear the proverbial roof off the house (despite the fact it was an outdoor show).
Should I go?
Yes, always go to Fort Reno shows.
Title Tracks
Who are they?
Title Tracks is the solo project of former Q and Not U drummer John Davis. The band is Davis and some of his friends, usually Michael Cotterman (who was in Philly hardcore legends Kid Dynamite) and Andrew Black (who was in Georgie James with Davis)
What do they sound like?
Title Tracks are a power/garage-pop band. They play incredibly catchy, guitar-driven power-pop songs that have a kind of garage-rock edge to them.
Wait, haven’t I seen John in another band? Paint Branch?
Yep. Davis plays in Paint Branch with his ex-Q and Not U bandmate Chris Richards. That’s another excellent band.
Should I go?
Yes, always go to Fort Reno shows.
