Bummer: FreeFest—the annual free music festival hosted by Virgin Mobile—will not happen this year.

According to a statement from Virgin Mobile, the festival won’t return this year, but doesn’t specify why. The festival—which has been held for the past eight years, the past of which have been free—has always been a benefit to support homeless youth, and a Virgin Mobile spokesperson says that they’ll continue to do so:

Virgin Mobile will continue its tradition of helping make a difference and support the youth homelessness cause by making a significant donation directly to the Sasha Bruce RE*Generation House in honor of National Homeless Youth Awareness Month, established by Virgin Mobile USA in November 2007.

In the five years that festival has been free, it’s raised more than $1 million dollars through donations and non-profit partners, as well as raising more than 75,000 volunteer hours. Their biggest accomplishment, a statement reads, was “underwriting the construction of a new transitional living facility for youth.”

Seth Hurwitz, I.M.P. Chairman, Merriweather Post Pavilion operator, and producer of FreeFest, said in statement that “unfortunately, the pieces are not all there right now with Virgin.” But he added a glimmer of hope, saying that “whether they are again, who knows…but the FreeFest concept is fantastic we are exploring options to continue it at Merriweather.”
