Because he can, one D.C. man is attempting to raise $30,000 through Kickstarter to fund a private Kenny Loggins concert in his living room.
Erick Sanchez launched the fundraiser yesterday and has already raised $1,015 of his goal. He tells DCist via email that he’s been in touch with Loggins’ bookers, which is where he got the $30,000 figure from. For this price, the 28-year old communications specialist says, “Kenny will be joined by his band, the Blue Sky Riders, for an intimate 75-minute acoustic performance ‘in your living room’ for up to 50 guests.”
“They are aware of my Kickstarter project, and I hope to reach the funding goal to allow this very special performance to take place in the greatest city in the country,” says Sanchez, who lives in Eastern Market.
Backers who pay $50 will get a t-shirt, and those who want to shell out $300 will get a guaranteed invitation to the concert, which can only be attended by 50 people. A 20-minute private meet-and-greet with one-half of Loggins and Messina will run you $5,000.
So why Kenny Loggins? Sanchez says it’s not because of the TV show Archer, which features a long-running “Danger Zone” gag. He first saw Loggins play a Fourth of July show in Ohio four years ago, and also attended a 2011 Grammys on the Hill event in a Longworth House Building committee room.
“I often say that, musically, I’m 30 years older than I actually am. My last three concerts were Lionel Richie, Michael McDonald and Hall & Oates. Simply put, my dentist is my DJ.”
