This is it! The last show of the season. Will it return next year? Hopefully! But who knows. For now, let’s focus on the bands playing the last show of the season. We’ll certainly dig deeper into the future of Fort Reno later.

Tonight’s bill: Protect-U, Give

Give

Who are they?

Give is a five-piece hardcore punk band with some, uh, psychedelic rock thrown into the mix. They’ve been around for about five years and have members who live in the D.C. area.

What do they sound like?

Hardcore punk meets garage-y psychedelic rock. Their sound is sometimes described as “flowercore” or “flower hardcore,” which may seem hard to describe but makes perfect sense when you see them live.

Wait a minute, a hardcore punk band that identifies as “flowercore?” That’s not punk!

Or, it’s extremely punk. Think about it.

Should I go?

Yes, always go to Fort Reno shows.

Protect-U

Who are they?

Protect-U is the electronic duo of Aaron Leitko and Mike Petillo, who played in the early-aughts post-hardcore band A Day In Black and White.

What do they sound like?

Not anything like the duo’s previous musical project. Leitko and Petillo make vintage house-inspired EDM jams that are “as fun to dance to as they are to think about,” WCP wrote in their review of their latest record, Free USA.

I’m really into post-hardcore now, does this mean I’m going to get really into electronic music later in life?

Who knows? Maybe. Maybe you’ll just regress and get really into ska again? Or maybe you’ll just get really into, like, pop-country, or Mongolian throat singing. Just like what you like.

Should I go?

Yes, always go to Fort Reno shows.
