The Washington football team might run into some trouble when they trek up to Minnesota to take on the Vikings in November.

The team is scheduled to play the Vikings on November 2 at the University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium, but the school wants to ban all instances of the team’s name used in “promotional and game date materials,” the Post reports.

In a letter that the University’s President, Eric W. Kaler, sent to U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minn.), he writes that “according to the facility use agreement between the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota Vikings, we do not have specific authority over specific NFL team behaviors or the Minnesota Vikings scheduled,” but says that they’re “in discussions with the Vikings about how to mitigate our collective concerns.” Part of those discussions includes not including the team’s name in any promotional material, game date material, and public address announcements.

The letter Kaler sent is in response to a letter Rep. McCollum sent to Vikings owner Zygli Wilf, urging the owner to take a stand against the team’s name. Since Vikings games are being played at TCF Bank Stadium while a replacement for the Metrodome is being built, McCollum sent a copy of the letter to Kaler.

Although the letter says the Vikings are in “discussions” with the University over the issue, it’s not yet clear if the Vikings will comply. A request for comment about the issue has yet to be returned, but the Post reports that Lester Bagley, the team’s executive vice president of public affairs, said they’re “still deciding how it will handle the college’s request.”

Kaler also wrote to McCollum that, as part of November’s Native American Heritage Month, as well as in anticipation of the game, they’re “working with the American Indian community and [their] students, faculty, and staff to develop positive educational events during the week prior to the game.”
