It’s been a long, trying week for us all, so sit tight—it’s almost the weekend. Unfortunately for those relying on Metro this weekend, things aren’t looking too good. While only three Metro lines will be experiencing weekend track work, there’s a lot of work going on with them. The Red Line will have stations closed at Takoma and Silver Spring, with shuttle buses replacing train service. Take a look:
Red Line
Red Line trains will operate as follows throughout the weekend:
- Between Shady Grove and Fort Totten: every 10 minutes.
- Between Glenmont and Forest Glen: every 10 minutes.
Stations Closed: Takoma and Silver Spring
Last Train Time Change: The last Red Line train of the night from Glenmont to Forest Glen will depart 33 minutes earlier than normal to allow for shuttle bus connections. On Friday and Saturday nights, the last train will leave Glenmont at 2:04 a.m., and on Sunday the last train will leave Glenmont at 11:04 p.m.
Free shuttle buses will replace Red Line trains between Fort Totten and Forest Glen. Shuttle buses will operate on two routes:
- Limited stop buses will operate between Fort Totten and Forest Glen making one stop at Silver Spring. Add up to 25 minutes of additional travel time.
- Local buses will operate between Fort Totten and Forest Glen, making intermediate stops at Takoma and Silver Spring. Please allow 10-12 minutes of travel time for each station stop.
Work Performed: Rail tie and insulator renewal, joint elimination and communication cable replacement between Fort Totten and Forest Glen.
Orange Line
Orange Line trains will operate every 20 minutes throughout the weekend.
Work Performed: Platform rehabilitation, rail tie/insulator renewal and communications upgrades between Minnesota Avenue and Cheverly.
Blue Line
Blue Line trains will operate every 20 minutes throughout the weekend.
Work Performed: Rail fastener, insulator and grout pad renewal between Pentagon City and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
Yellow Line
Yellow Line trains will operate every 20 minutes throughout the weekend. All trains will operate to/from Mt Vernon Sq, rather than Fort Totten. If you are traveling to or from a station north of Mt Vernon Sq, use a Green Line train to complete your trip.
Work Performed: Rail fastener, insulator and grout pad renewal between Pentagon City and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
No track work on the Silver and Green Lines. Celebrate by spending time with your loved ones.
