The Chris Brown circus is over.
The singer admitted to one count of simple assault in D.C. Superior Court today as part of a plea deal that ensures he won’t serve additional jail time, as every single outlet in town reported. Brown was arrested in October for allegedly punching a man seeking a photograph outside the W Hotel.
“I’m sorry,” Brown told the judge. According to a release from the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia’s office, the deal was influenced by Brown’s accepting “responsibility for his criminal conduct and that he served about 80 days of incarceration for a probation violation in California related to his arrest in this case, as well as the views of the victim.”
Brown’s bodyguard Christopher Hollosy was found guilty of assaulting the same man in April, which delayed the singer’s trial. Hollosy will be sentenced in November. A civil lawsuit is still pending against both men.
“As Chris Brown himself has now finally acknowledged, he punched a man in the face without provocation in the District of Columbia,” U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Ron Machen said in a release. “No matter your status or celebrity, you will be held accountable for such conduct in our city.”
