Bet you thought we were getting off easy this summer, eh? After a relatively mild June, July, and August, horribly mugging summer weather struck back with a vengeance this week.

With D.C.’s longest and hottest heat wave of the summer in full effect, the Department of Public works announced that they’ll do that thing where they pick up trash early because it’s so hot.

Tomorrow, DPW crews will pick up trash and recycling bins (a day later, due to Labor Day) beginning at 6 a.m. So yeah, put those bins out tonight so DPW crews can get their job done quicker and get out of tomorrow’s oppressive heat.

Also, due to the heat, the Department of Parks and Recreation announced that they’ll extend all spray parks, along with Upshur, Francis and Oxon Run pools, for another week. Originally, all pools and spray parks were scheduled to close for the season today, but because of the heat, they’re leaving some open for another week.
