Runners participating in two separate events this weekend will shut down several D.C. streets. While the street closures may be groan-worthy, both events benefit good causes.
The Beat the Deadline 5K, which benefits the National Press Club Journalism Institute, will take place Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The route, via the Metropolitan Police Department, is below:
Starting in the 1300 block of F Street NW East on F Street NW South on 13th Street NW East on Pennsylvania Ave NW South on 3rd Street NW to 3rd Street SW & D Street SW. Runners will U-turn at 3rd & D Street SW Proceed back northbound on 3rd Street to westbound Pennsylvania Ave NW North on 13th Street NW Back to the finish line.

Benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Nation’s Triathlon on Sunday will run from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m., and will affect a greater area. The following streets will be closed throughout the triathlon:

Below is a list of closed streets as well as alternative routes that can be used during the event:
Ramp for Westbound 395 toward Maine, Avenue will be closed to traffic; Alternate routes will be 14th Street Bridge, 9th Street Tunnel and 12th Street Tunnel. Potomac River Freeway will be closed to traffic; Alternate routes will be 23rd Street NW, Constitution Avenue NW and Virginia Avenue NW. East and westbound M Street, NW and south Wisconsin Avenue, NW, will remain open to traffic during the event. Whitehurst Freeway will not open inbound or outbound from 5:30 to approximately 1 p.m.
