One of the District’s top purveyors of cupcakes, Baked & Wired, is expanding, but not in the confectionary baked goods business.

According to a release, the owners of Baked & Wired signed a lease for a new location in Mt. Vernon Triangle, at the Lyric 440K building at 4th and K Street NW. Though Baked & Wired’s original location in Georgetown is know primarily as a coffee shop and bakery, with an emphasis on cupcakes and other pastries, owner Tony Velazquez says this new location will focus on “handcrafted breads using slow fermentation and traditional baking methods along with hand crafted coffees from a custom Slayer espresso machine using multiple small roasters.”

Speaking with District Source in May, Velazquez says that the new location, which will occupy a 4,231 square-foot space in the building, will have a “toast bar,” that features “homemade spreads that change with the time of day,” along with espresso, a small menu, and loaves of bread for sale.

“We want this new concept coffeehouse to be a comfortable gathering space for residents of Lyric 440K and people from all walks of life—from residents and office workers to tourists, students and sports fans headed to nearby venues,” Velazquez said in a statement. Their new store, which doesn’t have a name yet, is scheduled to open in early 2015.

And never fear, cupcake enthusiasts. Though the new location will specialize in artisanal bread, Baked & Wired says they’ll still “provide an assortment of retail offerings and sweets to complement the menu.”
