A Georgetown student pleaded guilty today to possessing ricin that he cooked in his dorm room.

Daniel Milzman will serve between a year and two days and two years in prison for cooking the lethal substance and keeping it in his desk. According to the government, the 19-year-old said he “intended to use the ricin on himself.” Milzman gave the ricin to a resident advisor in March:

The Resident Advisor directly asked Milzman if he intended to use the ricin on another undergraduate student with whom the defendant had a previous personal relationship. Milzman simply shrugged. After Milzman left his friend’s dormitory room, law enforcement officials were notified of the possible presence of ricin in Milzman’s room.

“Today Mr. Milzman owned up to his reckless behavior and acknowledged his crime before a federal judge,” Ron Machen, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, said in a release. “He is very lucky that none of his fellow students were hurt when he decided to manufacture this lethal substance.”

In a release, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia’s office notes that Milzman had watched episodes of Breaking Bad between January and March. In the AMC show, anti-hero Walter White produces ricin to use against his enemies and an innocent victim.

Milzman will be sentenced in November.
