Georgetown officials say “members of the campus community do not need to take additional action at this time” after a student died of apparent meningitis.
Andrea Jaime, a sophomore in the School of Nursing and Health Studies, died Tuesday at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
“This is difficult news for the many members of the Georgetown community who know Andrea,” Todd Olson, vice president for Student Affairs, said in an email. “Georgetown officials have been in touch with Andrea’s family and will continue to provide support and assistance to them. Please join us in remembering Andrea’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this time.”
An email sent to the campus community earlier in the day said “additional testing is being done to confirm the exact cause of this case of meningitis.”
Public health officials are working with the University to ensure there is no risk to the campus community while we await test results. Should we receive any additional information that requires action by members of our community, we will communicate through our student health officials.
“As we shared in a message to the community earlier today, proper medical precautions have been taken and members of the campus community do not need to take additional action at this time,” Olson said in the email confirming Jamie’s death.
Jaime, originally from Bogota, Colombia, was mourned last night at a memorial service on Dahlgren Quad, the Hoya reports.
