Today in “D.C. doesn’t get a vote, part 100000000000:” Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton will voice her “outrage” this afternoon over a current amendment being debated in the House of Representatives that “authorizes the arming and training of Syrian rebel groups” to fight against the Islamic State.

The amendment, which is part of the resolution to help fight against the Islamic State—the terrorist organization responsible for the beheading of two American journalists and a British aid worker, and is controlling a large part of the Middle East—is currently being debated among the House of Representatives. Of course, Norton won’t get to vote on the amendment because Home Rule, etc.

Instead, all she can do is issue this statement:

“District residents pay $12,000 per capita in federal income taxes, more per capita than residents of any state, to support their government in war and peace,” Norton said. “Regardless of what is decided, District residents will be there for America, with our money and servicemembers, as they have been in every war our country has fought. The nation, however, should not ask D.C. residents to fight another war without the consent of the governed, including the District of Columbia.”
