Circulator buses would travel to the Southwest waterfront, National Cathedral and Congress Heights Metro station under a plan released today by the District Department of Transportation.

After a series of studies and public events, DDOT drafted seven new routes and four new extensions to existing Circulator service.

One recommended idea would extend the existing Union Station-Georgetown route to reach the National Cathedral. The extension is listed as a near-term (between fiscal years 2015 and 2017) recommendation.

Also recommended for the near-term is a new route from the McPherson Square Metro station to the National Cathedral …

… an extension of the Union Station-Navy Yard route to the Southwest Waterfront …

… and an extension of the Dupont Circle-Rosslyn route to Howard University.

Recommendations for the future (fiscal years 2018 to 2020) includes a yet-to-be determined NoMa route and a reinstated Convention Center-Southwest Waterfront route. Even longer-term plans (fiscal years 2021 to 2024) focus on two corridors. A Columbia Heights-Washington Hospital Center-Brookland-NoMa route …

… and a Dupont-Southwest Waterfront route.

Feedback on the plan can be submitted here. The plan will be presented at a Circulator open house at Pinstripes (1064 Wisconsin Avenue NW) on October 20 from 6 to 8 p.m.
