The National Park Service will host an event Saturday to celebrate the 124th anniversary of Rock Creek Park.

President Benjamin Harrison signed a bill into law that established the park on September 27, 1890, according to NPS. Bluegrass music, arts and crafts and historic milling demonstrations will take place between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Peirce Mill (2401 Tilden Street NW). Here’s a schedule of events:

  • 10 a.m., African American History Hike: “This moderate two-mile hike highlights the hidden histories of African Americans in the Rock Creek valley. Hikers should wear closed-toe shoes and bring water.”
  • 11 a.m. , author Steve Dryden talk: Peirce Mill: Two Hundred years in the Nation’s Capital
  • 12 p.m., Unveiling of Peirce Mill Wayside Exhibits
  • 12 p.m., Live Bluegrass Music from the band Firefly
  • 1 p.m., Rock Creek Park History Hike: “Join a ranger for a moderate three-mile hike to learn about the Rock Creek valley in the 1800s and early 1900s. Hikers should wear closed-toe shoes and bring water.”
