The next phase of streetcar testing will begin next week, the District Department of Transportation officially announced today.
Pre-revenue operations are scheduled to begin Monday as system integration testing and operator training ends. The streetcars will operate during this phase as they would when passenger service begins except, you know, without the passengers. Visitors to the H Street corridor and Benning Road NE can expect to see the streetcars run Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to midnight; Friday, 6 a.m. to 2 a.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 2 a.m.; and Sunday and holidays, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
These hours are part of proposed streetcar regulations, including a controversial limit on cycling, that are open to comment until September 27. Comments should be emailed to publicspace.policy@dc.gov. Fares have still not been set.
Monday will also mark the kickoff of a safety campaign. Reports still place the start of passenger service in November.
